Strokes Ahead In School
Research continues to show regular swimmers are lengths ahead in school than non-swimmers.
When it comes to classroom-based subjects such as Maths, English and Science, children who frequently take swimming lessons are more likely to perform above average:
- 45% of children at reception level who have had swimming lessons achieved reading age 5 or above, in contrast to those who haven’t had lessons, who only reach 27%.
- Children who have taken swimming lessons enjoy reading more and are more likely to read outside of school.
- Children can better recite their times tables, with 39% of swimmers able to recite their 5 times table vs only 28% of non-swimmers.
This is down to several factors:
- A child who swims after school has busy weeks, meaning they are disciplined with their time. It’s natural they would apply this time-management to their studies.
It develops focus in children, showing you must work hard and consistently to achieve your goals. - We all find it that little bit easier to work hard when we have something positive to look forward to – like swimming in a warm pool!
Our Conclusion
At Swim Generation we are invested in a child’s development in the water, so if swimming affects their school work positively, it’s a bonus for us too! To find out more information about our swimming lessons, please click on SG Swim Programme and Intensive Courses.
