Swimming Opportunities
Many children stop swimming lessons before they reach 9 years old. Parents at this point feel their kids will not be the next Adam Peaty but they know enough not to drown. So they consider the swimming box ticked and move on to other activities. We understand that it becomes harder and harder to squeeze in after school activities such as football, cricket, gymnastics, art, musical instruments and coding as they get older.
But what many parents don’t realise is that continuing to swim will open up so many opportunities for their children in the long run as they become young adults. These are some of the sports that only competent and confident swimmers can truly enjoy:
- Diving
- Water polo
- Scuba diving
- Synchronised swimming
- Underwater rugby (yes, really!)
- Surfing
- Wind surfing
- Kayaking
- Canoeing
- Sailing
Our Conclusion
… the list can go on! Also, accomplished swimmers can qualify to become life guards or Level 1 swimming teachers from the age of 16, or Level 2 teachers from 17 years old. This opens up alternative job opportunities for teenagers, university students or Gap Yearers; working as a swimming teacher is much more rewarding than working in a pub or shop. It looks great on the CV, the pay is much better and the hours are more social – generally swimming lessons are in the daytime, leaving evenings free to socialise.
Our children’s programme goes up to squad level and we can also give some advice about what is next for your child’s swimming, even if he or she is not interested in competitive swimming. And we can also advise you on how your teenager can learn how to become a swimming teacher!
Swimming is a life skill, and we want everyone to enjoy the skill of swimming for life!
