I started swimming when my parents took me to my first lesson when I was 4 years old and later joined a local swimming club at the age of 7. Whilst swimming with this club I was able to medal at the county championships and be a finalist at regional level.
My decision to become a swimming teacher stemmed from my involvement in my local swim school where I helped teachers in the water, supporting swimmers.
Using my knowledge and expertise from swimming competitively, alongside the skills I had learnt through volunteering, I achieved my Level 1 and 2 Swim England swimming teaching qualifications.
With these qualifications I have been able to teach children, what I believe to be, a fundamental life skill that is enjoyable.
Learning to swim from a young age is also hugely beneficial socially, physically and mentally, as well as allowing parents to relax on holiday around a swimming pool!
Teaching children to swim is extremely rewarding, seeing them progress through the stages of the Learn to Swim programme and further. It also allows me to share my own experiences of swimming to further develop the strokes.
My approach to swim teaching is always adapting, allowing children to develop and progress at a rate that best suits them. My lessons are fun as well as progressive, allowing children to enjoy what I believe to be the best sport!
